Annual Barn Dance

The Barn Dance will take place on Friday 25th November in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £7.50 (which includes a pasty) and can be obtained from members of the Residents Association Committee or by contacting John Evans (01626 864489). Get your ticket early as numbers are strictly limited.

Special General Meeting

The Residents Association is holding a Special General Meeting to discuss the draft Neighbourhoold Plan for Dawlish on Friday 30th September. The meeting will take place in the Village Hall at 7.15pm. Click here for further details

An evening with Tony Beard

As part of the Residents Association agenda of widening its social activities, we are holding “An evening with Tony Beard” on Friday 23^rd September in the Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm.

Tony Beard is a true Devonian, known universally as 'The Wag from Widecombe'. Born and bred in Widecombe-in-the-Moor he spent many years working on his family farm, a genuine 'son of the soil', and is now retired. His unmistakable Devonshire voice has kept him among the most popular of the County's broadcasters on BBC Radio Devon, where each Sunday he presents 'Devon Requests' for three hours from 12 noon. 'The Sunday Request Show' and his 'Dartmoor Diary', in which he talks about the many interesting facets of Dartmoor's natural history, rural life, archaeology and history, make him one of the station's favourite presenters.

The evening will start with a talk about Dartmoor and Tony’s love of its history, his life and the Devonshire dialect. He will bring with him some of his collection of Pre-historic finds, arrowheads, knives, scrapers, spindle whorls etc including some old documents. After the interval, there will be a short cabaret when Tony will transform into 'The Wag'.

All profits from the evening will go towards the Devon Air Ambulance charity. Entry for the event will be strictly ticket only which will need to be purchased in advance. The cost of a ticket is £6.50 which will include a glass of wine in the interval. Tickets can be purchased from Gerry Chambers (01626 888919) and will be sold on a first come, first served basis as we can only accommodate 80 people.

Planning Matters

A questionnaire has been sent to all local residents (with the June edition of the Holcombe Village Newsletter) seeking views on the issues impacting on Dawlish over the next 20 years. The background to this consultation exercise is set out in an accompanying article (click here). Please do take time to fill in the questionnaire and return it to Teignbridge District Council.

Royal Wedding

The Royal Wedding is taking place on Friday 29th April. To celebrate the occasion, it is likely that an event, such as afternoon tea, will take place in the Village Hall. If you are interested in helping with the arrangements or attending, please contact Carole Comber.
